Shelby County Football Kicks Off This Week!

All five Shelby County high school varsity football teams will kick off their 2023 seasons this week.

The Center Roughriders will host the Tatum Eagles on Friday, August 25, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. The Roughriders will be trying to improve on an 8-4 season from last year. They finished in second place last season with a 4-2 District 8 4A mark. They are coached by Ricky Meeks and staff.

The Joaquin Rams will travel to Arp High School to take on the Tigers on Friday, August 25 at 7:30 p.m. The Rams were 9-3 last season and posted a 5-1 District 11-2A-1 record and they were the conference second place representative. They are coached by Wade Lawson and his staff.

The Shelbyville Dragons will host the Alto Yellowjackets on Friday, August 25 at 7:30 p.m. they went 6-5 a year ago and they were the fourth-place representative for District 11-2A-1. They are coached by Jerrad Wallace and staff.

The Timpson Bears will host the Beckville Bearcats on Thursday, August 24 at 7:30 p.m. The Bears are ranked number 2 in the state while the Bearcats are close in the number 4 spot. The are ranked #1 & #2 respectively in Region III. Timpson took the District 11 2A-1 title last season and boasted a 14-1 record before falling in the state semifinals late by a field goal. They are coached by Kerry Therwhanger and his staff.

The Tenaha Tigers will travel to West Sabine to take on the Tigers at 7 p.m. at WSHS. Tenaha was 5-6 overall last season and 3-2 in District 11-2A-II. They are coached by Terry Ward and staff.
