Shelby County Grand Jury Indicts 49 Cases

March 7, 2017 - A Shelby County Grand Jury handed down 49 indictments involving 27 individuals on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. The grand jury was impaneled for the January 2017 term of the 273rd Judicial District Court.

Lewis Paul Dearing was indicted for stalking, third degree felony. The indictment alleges from February 5, 2016 through February 6, 2017 Dearing engaged in conduct towards Beth Hagler which he believed she would regard as threatening bodily injury such as verbal threats of setting off explosions, discharging firearm multiple times near Hagler's home, threatening to harm Hagler's family.

Lewis Paul Dearing was indicted for stalking, third degree felony. The indictment alleges from February 5, 2016 through February 6, 2017 Dearing engaged in conduct towards Ronnie Borders which he believed would be regarded as threatening bodily injury such as verbal threats of setting off explosions, discharging firearm multiple times near Borders, challenged Borders to a gun battle during a roadside encounter.

Ladarren Antonio Reed was indicted for Credit Card/Debit Card Abuse, state jail felony. The indictment alleges on November 14, 2016 Reed used a Capital One credit card/debit card in the name of Rebekah Olivia Smith without the consent of the cardholder.

Ladarren Antonio Reed was indicted for Credit Card/Debit Card Abuse against the elderly, third degree felony. The indictment alleges on November 5, 2016 Reed used a Capital One credit card/debit card in the name of Mary Walker Hutto, an elderly individual 65 years of age or older, without the consent of the cardholder.

Ladarren Antonio Reed was indicted for Credit Card/Debit Card Abuse against the elderly, third degree felony. The indictment alleges on October 23, 2016  Reed used a Discover credit card/debit card in the name of Gene Wayne Hutto, an elderly individual 65 years of age or older, without the consent of the cardholder.

Rosa Castillo was indicted for Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution of Known Felon, third degree felony. The indictment alleges on May 25, 2016 Castillo hindered the arrest of Giovani Angel under the authority of a warrant and knowing that Angel was under arrest for burglary of a building, arson, and knew that Angel had escaped from a correctional facility.

Salvador Loza was indicted for Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution, third degree felony. The indictment alleges on May 25, 2016 Loza hindered the arrest of Giovani Angel under the authority of a warrant and knowing that Angel was under arrest for burglary of a building, arson, and knew that Angel had escaped from a correctional facility.

Bradley Ray Willard was indicted for Burglary of a Habitation, second degree felony. The indictment alleges on April 15, 2016 Willard entered a habitation without consent of owner Rene Hernandez and attempted to commit or committed theft of property including a Jacuzzi Whirlpool tub, a set of 3 ft. aluminum stilts, a LED work light, and a DeWalt Cordless Drill.

Marcus Randall Weems was indicted for Stalking, third degree felony. The indictment alleges on June 23, 2016 Weems engaged in conduct towards Megan Mawson which he believed would be regarded as threatening bodily injury such as going onto the property and leaving rocks underneath the bedroom windows and the front door of the victim's residence after being warned by law enforcement not to go onto the property or contact the victim.

Devon James LeBlanc was indicted for Theft, state jail felony. The indictment alleges on July 3, 2016 LeBlanc acquired a 2009 Kawasaki Brute Force 750 without the consent of the owner Calvin Smith with intent to deprive the owner of the property.

Devon James LeBlanc was indicted for Theft, state jail felony. The indictment alleges on July 3, 2016 LeBlanc acquired a 2014 Polaris Sportsman 570 without the consent of the owner Juanita Flanigan with intent to deprive the owner of the property.

Devon James LeBlanc was indicted for Theft, state jail felony. The indictment alleges on April 17, 2016 LeBlanc acquired a Kubota RTV 1140CPXR without the consent of the owner Mark Dees with intent to deprive the owner of the property.

Hollis Neel Farris was indicted for Theft, state jail felony. The indictment alleges on May 4, 2016 Farris took a grave monument made of petrified wood without the consent of the owner Paul Handcock with intent to deprive the owner of the property.

Ashley Lynn Phillips was indicted for Abandoning or Endangering a Child, state jail felony. The indictment alleges on June 30, 2016 Phillips engaged in conduct that placed a child younger than 15 years of age, in imminent danger by exposing the child to the controlled substance Methamphetamine.

Dillion Wood was indicted for Burglary of a Building, state jail felony. The indictment alleges on May 13, 2016 Wood entered a building without the consent of the owner, Brookshire Brothers, and took $954 in assorted coinage and $106.34 in packs of Kool cigarettes.

J.E. Belrose was indicted for Injury to a Child, Elderly or Disabled Individual, first degree felony. The indictment alleges on May 10, 2016 Belrose caused bodily injury to Karen Belrose, an individual 65 years of age or older, by breaking the victim's arm by striking it with a cane.

J.E. Belrose was indicted for Stalking, third degree felony. The indictment alleges on July 2, 2016 Belrose engaged in conduct towards Karen Belrose which he believed would be regarded as threatening bodily injury such as driving to and making demands at her new residence where she had been hiding after filling assault charges and filling for divorce.

Lygabriel Rayon Davis was indicted for Unlawful Possession of Firearm, third degree felony.  The indictment alleges on May 30, 2016 Davis possessed a firearm at a location other than the premises at which he lived and having been previously convicted of the felony offense of Man/Delivery of a Controlled Substance on the 10th day of August 2015 in the 300th District Court of Brazoria County, Texas.

Bobby Glynn Holloway was indicted for two counts of Driving While Intoxicated, third degree felony. The indictments allege on May 17, 2016 and on October 5, 2016 Holloway operated a motor vehicle in a public place while intoxicated by alcohol. Additionally the indictments mention prior offenses which occurred on April 21, 1999 (Cause Number 98CR-14814) and May 15, 1996 (Cause Number 96-19667CR) and both were convicted of an offense relating to the operating of a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Bobby Glynn Holloway was indicted for Assault on a Public Servant, third degree felony. The indictment alleges on May 17, 2016 Holloway caused bodily injury to Officer Richard Sims by striking him in the nose with a closed fist while Officer Sims was placing the defendant under arrest.

Destinee Adams was indicted for Abandoning or Endangering a Child, state jail felony. The indictment alleges on May 25, 2016 Adams engaged in conduct that placed a child younger than 15 years of age by having Methamphetamine accessible inside the residence.

Marcus Brian Hall  was indicted for Abandoning or Endangering a Child, state jail felony. The indictment alleges on May 25, 2016 Hall engaged in conduct that placed a child younger than 15 years of age by having Methamphetamine accessible inside the residence.

Jessica Lynn Marshall was indicted for Forgery, state jail felony. The indictment alleges on June 28, 2016 Marshall wrote a check in the amount of $100 on a church's business account payable to Viola Byrd as purported to be the act of Viola Byrd, who did not authorize the act. The check was then endorsed and cashed.

Kevin Wayne Askew was indicted for Unlawful Possession of Firearm, third degree felony. The indictment alleges on December 23, 2016 Askew possessed a firearm at a location other than the premises at which the defendant lived after the fifth anniversary of the defendant's release from confinement following conviction of the felony offense of Criminal Negligent Homicide on [March 17, 2010] (Cause Number 09CR-17840).

Chandler Parker was indicted for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, state jail felony. The indictment alleges on December 22, 2016 Parker operated a motor-propelled vehicle without the effective consent of the owner, Michael Birdwell.

Kevin Wayne Askew and Tobby Mardis both were indicted for Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon, second degree felony. The indictments each allege on December 14, 2016 the defendants threatened Michael Birdwell with imminent bodily injury and exhibited a deadly weapon. Askew exhibited a baseball bat and Mardis exhibited a large knife during the commission of said offense.

Kevin Wayne Askew and Charles Lynn Edwards were each indicted for Aggravated Kidnapping, first degree felony. The indictments allege on December 14, 2016 the defendants abducted Michael Birdwell by confining him in a place where he was not likely to be found and exhibited deadly weapons, a baseball bat and/or a large knife. Tobby Mardis was indicted for Aggravated Kidnapping (Criminal Responsibility of the Conduct of Another,) first degree felony. The indictment alleges on December 14, 2016, Mardis was criminally responsible for the conduct of another by acting with the intent to promote the commission of the offense by encouraging, directing, aiding, and/or attempting to aid Kevin Wayne Askew and Charles Lynn Edwards for the Aggravated Kidnapping of Michael Birdwell.

Kevin Wayne Askew and Charles Lynn Edwards were each indicted for Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, felony one degree higher: first degree felony. Tobby Mardis was indicted for Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, first degree felony. The indictments allege on December 14, 2016, Askew, Edwards, and Mardis each collaborated with one another in addition to Morgan Magee to commit the offenses of Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Kidnapping, and Aggravated Assault, Theft, and/or Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

Kevin Wayne Askew and Charles Lynn Edwards were each indicted for Aggravated Robbery, first degree felony. The indictments allege on December 14, 2016 the defendants during the course of committing theft of property threatened or placed Michael Birdwell in fear of imminent bodily injury or death and used or exhibited deadly weapons, a baseball bat and/or a large knife. Tobby Mardis was indicted for Aggravated Robbery (Criminal Responsibility of the Conduct of Another,) first degree felony. The indictment alleges on December 14, 2016, Mardis was criminally responsible for the conduct of another by acting with the intent to promote the commission of the offense by encouraging, directing, aiding, and/or attempting to aid Kevin Wayne Askew and Charles Lynn Edwards for the Aggravated Robbery of Michael Birdwell.

Donald Ray Runnels was indicted for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, third degree felony. The indictment alleges on June 6, 2016 Runnels failed to register with the local law enforcement authority in Shelby County as required because of a reportable conviction for Contributing to the Delinquency of A Juvenile.

Donald Ray Runnels was indicted for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, third degree felony. The indictment alleges on July 8, 2016 Runnels failed to register with the local law enforcement authority in Shelby County as required because of a reportable conviction of the Louisiana charge of Contributing to the Delinquency of A Juvenile.

Donald Ray Runnels was indicted for Sexual Assault, second degree felony. The indictment alleges on June 2, 2016 Runnels caused the penetration of the sexual organ of victim with his sexual organ without consent.

Willis Sharrone Grace was indicted for Sexual Assault, second degree felony. The indictment alleges on May 9, 2016 Grace caused the penetration of the sexual organ of victim with his sexual organ without consent.

Bradley Paul Webb was indicted for Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration, third degree felony. The indictment alleges on June 30, 2016 Webb failed to register his Facebook Account with the local law enforcement authority in Shelby County as required because of a reportable conviction for Aggravated Sexual Assault.

Hazel Felix Branham was indicted for Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration, third degree felony. The indictment alleges on May 5, 2016 Branham failed to report he had quit his job and moved out of Shelby County to local law enforcement because of a reportable conviction for Aggravated Sexual Assault.

Ralph Wilburn was indicted for Failure to Comply with Registration Requirements, second degree felony. The indictment alleges on April 15, 2016 Wilburn failed to provide a DNA sample to local law enforcement because of a reportable conviction of Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact.
