June 6, 2018 - The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Grill Fest sanctioned barbecue cook-off presented by Farmers State Bank promises to be a fun-filled day for all. The “Chillin & Grillin” will take place on Saturday, June 9 outdoors at the Windham Civic Center in Center, Texas.
The barbecue cook-off is sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society. Over $6,500 will be awarded in prize money to registered cook teams. Awards, sponsored by City of Center, will be awarded for Grand Champion, Reserve Champion and People’s Choice. Cook teams may also take part in the Bean Cook-Off with a $10 entry fee and jackpot prize. There will also be a Dessert Cook-Off with Adult and Young Adult (18 years old and under) categories, Adult category with a $10 entry fee and jackpot prize and free entry and trophy prize in the Young Adult category. Gold Sponsors for the event are Tyson Foods and Windham Civic Center.
The day’s events will begin at 12-noon for spectators. There will be a Washer Pitching Contest, sponsored by Shelby Savings Bank, music provided by DJ Jessie, sponsored by Rapid Payday & Title Loans LLC and a 42 Tournament, sponsored by Shelby Savings Bank. The 42 Tournament will begin on Friday, June 8 at 7pm at Sombreros with finals on Saturday, June 9 at 11am in the Civic Room at the Civic Center. The public is invited to sample tastings of barbecue and observe the day’s activities with free entry.
