September 28, 2016 - Jason Ferguson, 45, athletic director for Shelbyville High School has been arrested for assault family violence impeding breath/circulation, felony 3.
According to the arrest affidavit sworn by Shelby County Investigator Michael Griffin, the Shelby County Sheriff's Department was contacted on September 27, 2016 by the Stephen F. Austin State University Police Department regarding a student/worker who had been assaulted by her husband in Shelby County.
Chief DJ Dickerson received the information and tasked Investigators Del Birdwell and Michael Griffin with the case. The investigators met with Ferguson's wife who stated she had an argument with her husband Jason Ferguson on September 21. She stated that during the course of the argument, her husband pushed her into a couch and got on top of her and began spitting on her and yelling obscenities.
Mrs. Ferguson said, after arguing a little more, her husband went outside and sat on a bench that is on a porch against the wall. She stated she followed her husband onto the porch and apologized and then he slammed her onto the bench and forced her onto her back. Mrs. Ferguson then stated he squeezed her throat to where she passed out briefly. She stated he then let her up and went inside the house.
Mrs. Ferguson stated she went inside the house and told him that he had just choked her out, and he told her that he was aware of what happened and it did not seem to bother him. She stated they continued verbally arguing in the living room before finally getting to bed. She stated in the bedroom, her husband jumped on her again spitting on her while putting his hands in her mouth and his fingers in her eyes briefly.
Mrs. Ferguson stated after about 30 minutes or so they finally went to sleep for the night.
Ferguson bonded out on a $10,000 bond.
