February 16, 2015 - On February 6th, members of the Shelbyville Dragon Band competed in the UIL Region 21 Solo and Ensemble Contest held on the campus of SFASU.
Numerous students earned first division medals which qualified them for the State Solo and Ensemble Contest held in May at Pflugerville High School in Pflugerville, TX.
This year was a record number of students to qualify for the state contest from the Dragon Band. The students earning first division medals are as follow:
Mixed Trio: Rebecca Jones – Flute, Lindsey Holbrook - Flute, Max Fenton – Clarinet
Brass Sextet: Mikel Carter –Trumpet, Ty Fox – Trumpet, Paige Shedd – French Horn, Hunter Berry – Trombone, Jabria Jenkins – Euphonium, Darren Shedd - Tuba
Mixed Clarinet Quartet I: Devenne Smith – Clarinet, Max Fenton – Clarinet, Jessica Hemphill – Clarinet, WyTavia Jones – Bass Clarinet
Mixed Clarinet Quartet II: Madison Taylor – Clarinet, Lizbeth Bautista – Clarinet, Vivian Mendoza – Clarinet, Kaci Griffin – Bass Clarinet
Earlier in the school year the Dragon Band had two Twirlers earn medals for solo. Those students were Daisy Cartwright and Jaycee Johnson. In total, 18 student qualified for the state contest. We are Dragon Proud!!
