Shelbyville Wins Bi-District Playoff Over Gary, 85-46

The Shelbyville Boys varsity basketball team avoided elimination by defeating the Gary Bobcats in a Bi-District UIL Playoff elimination game by an 85-46 score. The game was played at Central Heights High School which was a neutral site.

The Dragons jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and never trailed during the contest. Junior Dragons’ point guard Jay Buckley had a game-high 31 points in the win. He had 15 points at halftime and 29 by the conclusion of the third period.

Shelbyville took a 22-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and led 45-20 at halftime. The Dragons went on a 15-0 run at the start of the third stanza and led 56-21 with six minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Jordan Boykins scored 19 points for the Dragons, Kolby Parker 12 points on 4, 3-pointers for the Dragons. Teammate Cole Ferguson added 8, LD Coleman 7, Jakevian Calhoun 4, H’Leighton McCleland 2, and Kurtric Allen also scored two points.

Cole McDaniel led the Gary Bobcats with ten points and was the only GHS player in double figures.
The Dragons, coached by David Schmidt, are now 33-3 for the season and will move to the Area Round of the UIL Playoffs. The time, opponent, and site of the next playoff game will be posted on Thursday.
