Shelbyville Wins Pair of District Home Basketball Games with Garrison

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons and the Dragons each won District 23 2A Varsity Basketball games against visiting Garrison High School on Tuesday.

The Lady Dragons were tied with the Lady Bulldogs at 4-4 points midway through the first period and had fell behind 10-14 by the end of the first quarter. Shelbyville still trailed 18-25 halfway through the second stanza but fought back to lead 28-23 by the midway intermission.

SHS went on a 15-0 point scoring run to start the third frame and they built a 43-23 lead with three minutes left in the third period. Shelbyville led 46-27 going into the final quarter of play. The Lady Dragons took a 20-point lead at 51-31 points midway through the fourth period and by games end they had won 58-41.

The Lady Dragons were led scoring by Kenadee Latham with 18, Trinity Mitchell with 16, and Cori Lawson with 12 points. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Briana Downs with 15 points, Aubrey Townsend scored 11.

The Dragons boys varsity held a 9-6 led at the end of the first quarter, a 22-16 point advantage at halftime and a 26-16 lead at the end of the third quarter.  The Dragons led the Bulldogs 31-20 midway through the final period and took a 39-27 win at game’s end.

Shelbyville high scorers were Eli Ferguson with 13, and JaDavian Mathis with 12 points. Brayden Davidson led the Bulldogs with 7 points.

The Lady Dragons are now 14-8 overall and they have a 1-3 District 23 2A conference mark. The Dragons boys team is 16-4 for the season and they hold a 2-0 mark in the conference.

Shelbyville will travel to Timpson for games at Bears Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 with girl’s varsity play beginning around 6:30 p.m. and boy’s varsity game to follow after.
