Snider Hangs Memorial Wreath at Vietnam Peace Accord Anniversary

February 13, 2018 - VFW Post 8904 and Auxiliary held a Vietnam Peace Accord of 1973 observance recognizing the 45th anniversary of the accord Friday, January 26, 2018

Larry Hume, Post Quartermaster, opened the ceremony and he was followed by Cynthia Islas, Post Chaplain, who gave the opening prayer.

Hume gave history of the peace accord and reminded everyone more than 58,000 Americans gave their lives in the Vietnam War and there are still 1,601 missing in action.

"The Paris Peace Accord ended the Vietnam War. It was signed 45 years ago on January 27, 1973, and was followed by the withdrawal of the remaining American Troops," said Hume. "The terms of the Accord called for a complete cease-fire in south Vietnam, it allowed north Vietnam forces to retain the territory that they had captured and it provided for the release of U.S. prisoners of war."

In honor of those mentioned and all who perished during the Vietnam War, Vietnam Veteran Travis Snider, hung the memorial wreath upon the Shelby County Veterans Memorial.

This was followed by the playing of Taps.
