May 31, 2016 LUFKIN – The Texas Transportation Commission approved funding for improvements for AL Mangham Jr. Regional Airport at its May meeting in Austin last week.
Funds totaling $58,750 were approved and earmarked for improvements which include engineering and design for fencing improvements at the airport. A project consultant is expected to begin work this summer.
Costs for the project will be funded by the TxDOT’s Aviation Facilities Grant Program and the City of Nacogdoches. The grant program preserves and improves the state’s general aviation system.
Currently, about 275 community airports in Texas are eligible for funding for improvements. In 2016, TxDOT expects to provide approximately $60 million in funding for planning, constructing and maintaining community airports.
Arrivals and departures from community airports account for more than 3 million flight hours per year and provide aircraft facilities for agricultural, medical, business and commuter use.
