Strong Second Half Propels Panola Men Past Jacksonville College, 85-78

January 12, 2018 - Jacksonville, Texas – The Panola College men’s basketball team captured a Region 14 victory here Thursday night, 85-78. With the win, Panola elevates their record to 11-5 and 4-2 in Region play. “This game was a great example of playing all 40 minutes. We were steady for most of the night, took some lumps, but eventually hit our stride half way through the second half.” Head Coach Grant McMillan stated.

During the first frame, Jacksonville maintained the led for most of the half. A Jeremy Roscoe three pointer gave Panola a 36-35 lead with just under three minutes remaining in the half, but couldn’t maintain the lead. Jacksonville took the halftime lead, 43-39. Panola found themselves down by as much as 11, 54-43 with 13:56 remaining in the final frame. Roscoe nailed two three-pointers in the final 10 minutes while his teammate, Shandon Goldman, also chipped in with two three’s to gain momentum and ultimately the victory.

Alex Holcombe finished with an impressive stat line tallying 10 points, chasing down eight rebounds and blocking seven shots. Marlon Taylor recorded another double-double scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Roscoe, Goldman, and TJ Killings all scored in double figures and Jeff Boyd came off the bench and recorded 13 points.  As a team, Panola made 14 three-pointers.

Panola finishes up playing the South Zone in Region 14 play this upcoming Saturday, January 13th when they host Lee College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM on the campus of Panola College.
