February 21, 2017 - The deadline for "Pennies for Patients" has been extended to March 3rd. If you know a Shelbyville student, be sure to gather up your coins and let them know you want to donate to the "Leukemia and Lymphoma Society" for research to help find a cure and help with the fight against blood cancer among children, adolescents and young adults under the age of 20

February 20, 2017 - Students at S.W. Carter Elementary school have been collecting for the "Pennies for Patients" fundraiser since February 15th and the last day is Tuesday, February 21st!

All the pennies, nichols, dimes, quarters and money raised for the "Leukemia and Lymphoma Society" goes for research to help find a cure and the fight against blood cancer among children, adolescents and young adults under the age of 20.

This year the fundraiser has a very special meaning for the students at Shelbyville ISD as one of their own students, Ryan Moore, is a Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Honored Hero. Ryan is a first grade student in Mrs. Lyndy McDonald's class. A month after he turned six years old he was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia, EPT- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Since that time he has endured several bone marrow aspirations and various types of chemotherapies. His type is a rare and aggressive type of leukemia that only affects 1% of kids. Because of this, Ryan's doctors must be extra aggressive in treating him. Through this whole ordeal Ryan has been strong and brave. He always tries to put on a brave face with every needle stick, every test and every situation he is facing. Despite his diagnosis, Ryan enjoys playing baseball, and playing outside! Ryan is our Hero.

This year the school will not only be raising oney for research but, also honoring our hero. You may include in your collection a $1 tribute to be presented to Ryan during this year's field day. So, contribute $1 for our honored hero, and fill up your boxes with $$$ to help reach our goal of $3,000 for research and finding a cure.

If you won't have a chance to fill a box, it's not too late because donations can be made online at www.studentseries.org/txg (Carter Elementary School)
