Tenaha High School Band Invited to Demonstrate at the TMEA Convention

July 28, 2023 - Tenaha ISD is extremely excited and honored to share that this past week, our district was informed by the Texas Music Education Association (TMEA) Band Division President that our high school band was chosen to be an "Invited Program Spotlight" at the 2024 TMEA Convention.

The Tenaha High School Band is one of the smallest band programs to ever be invited by TMEA to demonstrate/ perform at the TMEA Convention. Tenaha was one of only three groups chosen from the many wonderful band programs that applied. This is the inaugural year for the “Invited Program Spotlight.”

The "Invited Program Spotlight" was created to recognize band programs in Texas that have been exceptionally successful despite challenging situations. The goal of this new "Invited Program Spotlight" is to provide a venue at the TMEA Convention for band directors from around the state and country to learn from the selected programs as these band programs demonstrate teaching techniques used to reach a high level of excellence.

In doing so, Tenaha ISD band directors and students will be provided a platform to demonstrate their incredible talents. There were only three band programs in the state of Texas that were selected for this new "Invited Program Spotlight" this year and the Tenaha High School Band is one of them! In fact, Tenaha is by far the smallest school district invited.

Additionally, Tenaha will be the first small school band to represent the Association of Texas Small School Bands in this inaugural program. The Tenaha High School Band will travel to San Antonio on February 7-10, 2024 to perform and provide a clinic demonstration at the TMEA Convention (the largest such convention in the nation). Nearly 30,000 music educators from around the state, country, and world attend this convention annually to gain insight and grow professionally as music educators. This will truly be great exposure and an unmatched experience for our program, students, and our community.

Band Directors for the Roarin’ Band from Tigerland are: Brian Sours, Shannon Rios and Cristie Roye. Superintendent of Schools is Mr. Don Fallin, Assistant Superintendent, Ms. Terry Bowlin and High School Principal of Tenaha High School, Mr. Marlon Byrdsong.
