Texas Extension Education Association Conference

September 20, 2016 - Peaches Conway, Jenny Salter and Sylvia Jackson represented Shelby Extension Education Association at the 2 day State Conference of Texas Extension Education Association in Plano.  Walter Manning also attended as well as Ellen Manning, District 5 Director.  Beside co-hosting the conference we organized the Country Store selling numerous articles crafted by members from both District 4 and 5 to raise money for the districts to give 4-H Scholarships.  At the conference Dot Golding won a red ribbon on her framed crocheted doily, Ellen Manning won a red ribbon on her paper creation of flowering herbs and Jenny Salter entered 3 quilted panels and Sylvia entered a machine embroidered picture of a cow girl.  These articles were a part of a judged Cultural Arts show that extended through 3 rooms.  The theme of the conference was Spread Your Wings and Fly so we had metal butterflies crafted by Norman Hurt for table decorations and stage decoration.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Don Newbury, University President and  Author added a lot of  humor to the opening session as well as a deep challenge to honor and serve our creator.  There were eight Educational Workshops for delegates and other members to attend to gather knowledge for our meetings as well as to share with any group who needs a program.  We elected two new members for the state board and presented awards to the outstanding counties of Texas.
