Texas Rangers Arrest Sheriff's Deputy on Assault Charge

Peter DavisJuly 19, 2017 - A Shelby County Sheriff's Deputy has been arrested for assaulting his wife.

Peter John Davis, 36, of Center turned himself in to the Shelby County Sheriff's Department on the evening of Tuesday, July 18, 2017 where he was placed in custody on the charge of assault family violence with choking enhancement, felony 3. He was issued a $5,000 bond.

According to the arrest affidavit, Davis' wife Rebekah Dian Davis was interviewed by Texas Ranger James D. Hicks and she alleged Peter Davis, during fits of anger, had attacked her by placing his hands on her throat.

Mrs. Davis provided photographic documentation to Ranger Hicks, which he indicated corroborated her story. The dates on which Mrs. Davis alleged her husband had either choked and grabbed or struck her was January 28, 2017; May 12, 2017; May 30, 2017; and June 3, 2017.

Ranger Hicks learned Mrs. Davis had confided in a friend, and he spoke with that individual on July 13, 2017. The friend confirmed for Ranger Hicks of being told by Mrs. Davis of the assaults and the friend had seen and photographed bruises consistent with having been choked and struck.

According to court records, Rebekah Davis filed for divorce from Peter Davis on March 21, 2016.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Department, Davis was placed on administrative leave when the investigation began and upon arrest his employment with the Shelby County Sheriff's Department was terminated.
