Three-Vehicle Collision on US 96 South in Center (Updated)

February 4, 2019 - U.S. Highway 96 South (Southview Circle) in Center was the scene of a three-vehicle crash Friday, February 1, 2019.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the location just before the intersection of Old San Augustine Street. 

(Update, February 15): The Center Police Department has just recently released information on this crash. According to Center Police Officer Steve Thornburgh, at 2:50pm a Red 2007 Pontiac driven by Vickie Sloane, 54, of Center was stopped to make a left turn into a private driveway. At that time a Silver 2013 Ford Edge driven by Luis Landaverde, 18, of San Augustine came to a stop behind the Pontiac.

A white 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Caleb McDonald, 19, of Center with a 17-year-old passenger, failed to control speed and struck the rear of the Ford. This then caused the Ford to strike the rear of the Pontiac. 

Sloane was transported by ambulance to Nacogdoches Medical Center - Shelby Emergency Department. 

McDonald was issued citations for fail to control speed and no driver's license.
