Tigers Fall to Muenster in Quarterfinals

December 5, 2015 - The Tenaha Tigers varsity football team fell to the Muenster Hornets by a 33-16 score during their Regional Final/ State quarterfinal game at Forney High School last Friday. This was the Tigers fifth consecutive Regional Championship appearance. This was the first ever football game between these two teams.

An Abel Rodriguez 33-yard, career long field goal proved to be the only score of the first period and gave Tenaha a narrow 3-point advantage going into the second quarter.

Muenster took a 7-3 lead after quarterback Blane Jones and fullback Dalton Bartel methodically marched the ball down the field on a 70-yard drive to score with 4:30 left in the first half.

A CJ Horn 3-yard score regained the lead for Tenaha and capped a 3-play drive which only took about one minute off the clock. Tenaha led 10-7 but not for long. Muensters Bartel added a second score which gave the Hornets a 13-10 lead at the midway intermission.

Muenster eventually out-scored the Tigers 20-6 in the second half. Onterio Thompson broke free and ran down the sideline 36-yards for the Tigers only score but it proved to be too-little-too-late.

Tenaha, led by first-year head coach Craig Horn, posted an 8-6 record after a tough 0-5 start. They played a tough pre-season schedule while introducing a young team to a new staff and system.

Muenster moves on to the State Semifinals next week and boasts a 13-1 mark.
