Timpson High School Band Earns First Division at UIL Marching Contest - On Saturday, October 21 the Timpson High School Band earned a first division rating at the UIL Region 21 Marching Contest held at Lobo Stadium in Longview. This year is an “advancing year” for class 2A, so the first division rating enabled the band to advance to the Area round. The UIL Area C Marching Contest will be this Saturday, October 28 at Homer Bryce Stadium on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. The top three bands in class 2A will advance to the UIL State Marching Band Contest at the Alamodome in San Antonio on November 6. The students are very excited about the opportunity to compete at the next level!

Some of the judges’ comments from Saturday’s contest are:
“Very nice ensemble sounds.”
“Very nice looking band. Nice to see all those tubas!”
“I appreciate your approach to phrasing.”
“Sharp turns!”
“Wonderful sounds! Great low sounds!”
“This was a treat! Thanks for playing some of my favorite marches!”
“This was a fine performance!”

The band’s director, Rhonda Daniel, said, “This band has put in many hours rehearsing since August 7 and I couldn’t be more proud of what they’ve accomplished. We have great parents that understand what it takes to have a successful band, as well as an amazing booster club. We could not have an award-winning band without them! Our band has a rich history and it is great to be able to continue traditions and make the people of Timpson proud of their band.”

The band has six seniors this year: Blake Johnson, percussion and Drum Major of the THS Band, Kamareious Johnson, percussion, Kristyn Rader, trumpet and head majorette, Tina Sepulavado, flute, Connor Timmons, percussion, and Britney Vargas, clarinet. The band is directed by Rhonda Daniel and John Dupnik.
