Timpson Seniors Tour Jail
Mrs. Tina Samford took half of Timpson High School seniors to the Shelby county jail last week for a tour and to hear some inmates speak on the importance of staying in school and staying away from drugs. The rest of THS seniors will tour the jail this Wednesday, September 16. Mrs. Samford said her goal is to take all classes this year and the incoming freshmen in the following years. She believes it will have the biggest effect on the freshmen!

The inmates speaking to them does make an impact and if we can alter the path of just one troubled teen, then we will have succeeded! The inmates were honest with the students as they told their stories of how poor decisions led them to be incarcerated. The prisoners also explained to students that actions do have consequences that not only impact their lives but also the lives of their loved ones. One inmate told of all the milestones she missed as her now 14 year old daughter grew up with her mother in jail.

All the inmates encouraged the seniors to learn how to make good decisions, listen to their parents and teachers and to think about how the consequences of their actions before they act. Mrs. Samford and the seniors appreciate the opportunity to tour the jail, listen to the inmates and learn some valuable life lessons. (See related article here - link)

Timpson High School Remembers 9/11
On Friday Sept. 11, Timpson High School took time to remember and honor the rescue workers and victims of 9/11. Many of us remember that day like it was just yesterday but for those students in high school only the seniors in pre-k 4 were old enough to be in school on 9/11/2001.

To ensure students remember the day that America was under terrorist attack on our own soil, Timpson High School staff had a number of activities throughout the day. The school day began with a poem about 9/11.

Teachers showed video clips throughout the day that showed students the events of that tragic day in American history. Staff also showed a video clip of the 9/11 Memorial that is a tribute to not only the victims of 9/11 and the first responders but also serves as a tribute to all citizens of the United States of America who worked together to not let this destroy our nation but to bring it back stronger and better.

The 9/11 tribute ended with a tribute from the cheerleaders who formed the letters ‘We Love the USA’ with their pom poms and raised the sign seen in photo attached that honored and remembered all those who were impacted by 9/11.
