SFASU Cram the Coliseum – Timpson Elementary School fifth grade students went to Cram the Coliseum at Stephen F. Austin State University to watch a basketball game. Students who had researched, written and presented a speech about the career they wanted to work toward were rewarded with a free ticket to attend this event. Fifth grade students are learning about future career opportunities as part of the AVID program taught by TISD Director of Academic Services Stephanie Behrens. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. Timpson Chamber of Commerce president Paul Smith received these tickets from the Nacogdoches Chamber. Go Center Director Vernett Richardson and Youth Advisory Council members accompanied the fifth graders on this trip. Thank you Paul Smith, the Nacogdoches Chamber of Commerce and Vernett Richardson for giving our students the opportunity to visit a college campus.

Collegiate Center News – One third of Timpson High School students are enrolled in dual credit classes for the spring semester. Students will receive high school and college credit for these classes. Students have the opportunity to earn a two year associate degree or vocational/technical certification or license before graduating from high school. The tuition, books and fees for the classes are paid for by the district. Twenty five of the students are taking two dual credit classes and two students are taking three classes. Students take these classes on line during the school day in the library under the supervision of Mrs. Tina Samford. Teachers offer their assistance to students as needed. The district is committed to helping students achieve their educational goals while at the same time helping parents with the expense of a post-secondary education. In the fall semester all students taking dual credit classes passed their classes receiving both high school and college credit.
