Teacher Spotlight
Joshua Jourden teaches physical education, pre-athletics, middle school and high school athletics at Timpson ISD.  He has taught and coached for 11 years with three of those years being in Timpson.  He graduated from the University of Texas at Permian Basin.

When asked what he enjoys most about working at Timpson ISD Coach Jourden said,” I work with great coaches that strive to be successful. We all share a common goal of getting better one practice at a time.  I also work with coachable kids who work hard and have great attitudes.  It’s certainly enjoyable when we can run a practice with a group of girls that will work hard and push themselves all with just a little encouragement.”

Coach Jourden said what he enjoys most about teaching is setting high goals for his athletes and then watching them achieve those goals.  He said the biggest benefit with coaching is watching the students’ hard work and dedication pay off.  Coach Jourden has coached in the state basketball tournament three of his nine years as a head coach.  Seven of those nine years he had winning seasons.

His team won the basketball state Championship for 1A Division 2 in 2013 and were runners up in 2011.  Coach Jourden has high expectations for all his players and works with them to develop the skills that will help them meet their individual and team goals.  He also sponsors activities such as picking up trash along the highway that he thinks builds team spirit and to give back to the Timpson community that supports his athletes.

Thank you Coach Jourden for coaching our athletes toward success.

Parks Chosen As DAR Good Citizen
Sheridan "Faith" Parks was chosen by Timpson High School staff as the Daughters of the American Revolution "Good Citizen".  Faith and other recipients were recognized at a luncheon held at Stephen F. Austin State University in the Grand Ballroom.  TISD congratulates Faith on this recognition and wishes her the best in her future endeavors.

Teacher Spotlight
Mr. James Granberry is the third grade science and social studies teacher for Timpson ISD.  He enjoys working with students and helping them grow educationally and being able to master learning skills.

Mr. Granberry said he works to instill confidence in students so that they can believe that they have the ability to learn.  Having confidence in themselves helps them have confidence and a desire to learn.

James GranberryIt also helps them learn to be responsible for their learning.  Mr. Granberry gives students the opportunity to learn to be problem solvers by giving them experiments and other hands on learning opportunities where they are responsible for finding the best solution.

Mr. Granberry has sponsored science fairs for his students.  Students had the opportunity to show and explain how their experiments worked and what they learned from conducting the experiment.  He also sponsors a restaurant day.  On this day third graders set up a restaurant in the classroom for second graders to attend.  Third graders get to experience and learn about business, consumerism, finance, work ethics and customer service.

Mr. Granberry works to give his students academic knowledge as well as real life experiences.  Thank you Mr. Granberry for all you do to  make learning apply to real life.
