Robotics Showcase - On May 3, 2018 Timpson Elementary was represented at the “Primarily Positively PosZOOtronic” Robotic Showcase at Region 7 in Kilgore, TX. This was our first year competing in the challenge. It was a pilot program for Timpson this year, but we are looking forward to expanding and improving the robotics program next year. Part of the challenge this year was for students to brainstorm, research, design, and build a zoo. The other part of the challenge was to design a robot that could help in their zoo. As they learned about zoos and robots they kept track of everything through keeping a journal. They had to take a survey, make a budget, and create codes for their robots/zoos. The “Robotic Bear” team included Branden Massey and Brennan Hulsey. The “We Can Do It” team included Bianca McCollister and Joleigh Jourden. Branden and Brennan created the “Marvelous Zoo of Awesomeness” and their robot was a solar powered windmill that created electricity for their zoo. Joleigh and Bianca created “The Zoo that We Can Do” and their robot was a tour guide that shared information about the animals. Both zoos were created through using recyclable materials provided through the Timpson Elementary STEM Store. The girls received the “Outstanding Design” award. The Boys received the “Peer Choice” and “Novel Design” awards. We want to thank Region 7 Education Service Center for making our entries possible by allowing us to borrow two of their WeDo 2.0 Lego Education sets.
