February 23, 2017 - Timpson ISD faculty and students were in attendance for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Collegiate and Career Center on the Timpson ISD grounds Thursday, February 23, 2017.

Mid Johnson, Timpson ISD Superintendent welcomed everyone to the event and gave an opening prayer.

"We'd like to welcome everyone out to this very nice day and to our groundbreaking ceremony for the 2017-2018 construction project," said Johnson.

Following the prayer, Johnson gave an idea of what the plans are for construction, "Today marks a milestone in a new beginning for our school district. Our vision, with God's blessing, is to become the best school district in the state of Texas. Therefore, we are set to construct a new state of the art Collegiate and Career Center and Event Center."

The facility's primary construction is planned to be 55,000 square feet and to include the Collegiate Center, Events Center and Ag Science Facility.

"The spot on which shovels are placed marks the far end of the new facility, which will span to where the field house is located now, or at least partially located," said Johnson as he indicated the half torn down building behind him. "In this new facility students will be offered the chance to gain many college and career hours as they prepare for a successful career. They will have the chance to earn Associate's Degrees, college hours and certificates preparing them for a greater chance of success in the world."

Johnson said to his knowledge the type of facility they are building is a new conceptual model demonstrating a passion toward preparing students for their futures.

"We are very proud that our community wishes to invest in our children and their lives and we hope this is the beginning of something great that will endure the test of time and make these children's' lives better," said Johnson.

Other projects across the campus include renovating and expanding the current band hall, building a new softball complex, playground, bus barn and updating many other areas across the campus and district.

"As we look into the future, let us look to where we have been and seek vigorously where we are going. Let us never forget the path to greatness is filled with hard work and will never really end, but will reap rewards of greatness for our future community and children," said Johnson.

As students and faulty looked on Timpson ISD board of trustees, assisted by students, grabbed shovels and dug dirt to signify the groundbreaking of progress into the future with the establishment of the new facility and bringing the event to a close.
