THS College Night - Timpson High School is having a College Night on Tuesday, January 23rd in the Timpson High School auditorium. SFASU, Panola, and TSTC are planning on attending. We would like students and parents grades 7th-12th to attend. It is important that students begin planning their pathways. These Institutions of Higher Education will explain the options they will offer our Timpson students while they are still enrolled in high school. The College Night is from 5:30-7:00 PM.
New Weight Room Equipment – Penny Ramsey recently got a grant from Donors Choose to purchase new weight equipment for the boys’ weight room. TISD Athletic Director Kerry Therwhanger is greatly appreciative to Ms. Ramsey for writing the grant and to Dick’s Sporting Goods for funding the project. Ms. Ramsey has also written a grant for new weight room equipment for the female athletes’ weight room. She hopes to hear from this grant soon. Ms. Ramsey has also gotten many other projects funded for her Pre-K classroom and other classrooms. Her total amount of project funding for this year is $49,955 and her total for projects over the past few years is $63,372. Thank you Ms. Penny for the time and effort you put in to improve educational and extra- curricular opportunities for TISD students and staff. Ms. Ramsey would like to express her appreciation to Donors Choose and all the individuals and businesses who have so generously donated to help us better serve our students.
Donors Choose – Mrs. Kendra Welch recently had several projects funded for use in her STEM (science, technology, engineering and science) Center. Instructional supplies that were funded through Donors Choose include: Programmable Robot Kit, LEGO Classic Creative Brick Box, Snap Circuit Arcade Electronics Discovery Kit, Snap Circuit FM Radio Kit, Engino Discovering STEM Structures Construction & Bridges Kit, M Robotic Hand Kit as well as several other STEM related instructional supplies. She also got a television and DVD funded to watch movies that correlate with the novels read in class. She also received Chrome Books and Camcorders for Successful Careers. These were ordered so that students could go out into the community and record interviews with engineering related employees so they could bring those videos back and share them with the school. The purpose is to learn about STEM related careers. She also got headphones that help cut distractions that sometime interrupt student learning and their ability to concentrate. Projects funded totaled $2,389. Mrs. Welch and her students express their sincere gratitude to all those generous donors who funded these important projects.
Donors Choose – Timpson Middle School teacher Chad Lawrence received a grant for $600 to purchase a drone. This will be used as part of STEM (science, technology engineering and math) classroom projects. PWC in New York City, New York funded this grant. Mr. Lawrence is grateful to PWC for helping provide his students this opportunity.
