Timpson Mayor Debra Smith to Address TAGHS

October 17, 2016 - The time period between current events and history is brief. Today's current events are tomorrow's history. The Timpson Area Genealogical and Heritage Society will bridge that gap at their October meeting next Wednesday when Timpson Mayor Debra Smith will be the guest speaker. A former City Council member, she was elected Timpson's first female mayor in May of 2010 and, except for a brief period, has served in that office ever since.

A graduate of Timpson High School and Stephen F. Austin State University, Mrs. Smith holds a Masters Degree in Education. Mayor Smith is the General Manager of Timpson's Smith Sawmill Service which her husband Paul started in 1990. She left her career as a public school teacher in 1994 to work at the business. She is also active in the Timpson Chamber of Commerce, where husband Paul is the current president.

TAGHS invites the public to hear Mayor Smith address current issues in the City of Timpson as well as recall significant events and changes which have occurred during her tenure as mayor at this month's Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society next Wednesday, October 19 at 2PM in the Timpson Public Library on the corner of Austin and Bremond Streets.
