Timpson Takes Pair of District 23 Basketball Road Wins at Joaquin

The Timpson Lady Bears varsity girls, and the Timpson Bears boys, varsity basketball teams each took District 23 2A-1 wins over Joaquin on Friday.

The Lady Bears fell behind the Joaquin Lady Rams early and trailed 12-2 points midway through the first period. JHS held a 16-6 advantage at the end of the first period. Joaquin led 18-13 at the midway point of the second stanza but Timpson fought back to take a narrow 20-18 lead into the locker rooms at the midway intermission. The Lady Rams regained a 22-20 lead halfway through the third frame and led 27-26 going into the fourth and final period. Timpson went on a 12-2 point scoring run in the final two minutes and earned a 40-33 conference win.

The Lady Bears were led by Taylor Stewart wit 15 points. Joaquin was led by Ellie Anglin with nine points. The Lady Rams are 17-12 overall this season and 5-5 in district play. The Lady Bears are 14-15 this season and 8-1 in district competition.

The Timpson boys varsity basketball team jumped out to a 10-0 point advantage by the middle point of the first quarter and they led 14-9 going into the second period. They built a 25-15 lead over the Rams midway through the second frame but led only 28-25 at the midway break. They began to gain momentum in the third period and led 45-34 going in to the fourth quarter. The Bears outscored the Rams 20-12 in the final frame and went home with a 65-46 win.

The Bears were led by Terry Bussey with 15, Tyler Lane 12, Jackson Campbell 11, and Amari Bruton with ten points. The Rams were led scoring by Tanor Doggett with 19, Gauge Jordan 16 and Jericho Newman scored ten points.

Joaquin will head to Beckville on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 where JV will begin at 4:30 p.m. and varsity girls and boys action follows at Bearcats Gymnasium.

Timpson will host the Lady Gary Bobcats and Bobcats at Bears Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 30. JV tipoff is at 4:30 p.m. and varsity girls and boys action follows at Bears Gymnasium.
