Timpson Takes Pair of Lopsided Varsity Wins over Joaquin

Both Timpson High School’s Varsity Boys and Girls teams took lopsided District 22 Class 2A basketball conference wins over visiting Joaquin on Friday. The Lady Bears beat Joaquin’s Lady Rams by a 54-17 score and the Bear’s beat the Rams by a 55-17 margin.

The Lady Bears gained a lead in the first three minutes of the game and never looked back. They led 20-4 at the end of the first quarter. The second period proved to be a defensive battle as Timpson only outscored Joaquin 6-2, and they extended their lead to 26-6 at the halftime intermission.

The Lady Bears once again outscored the Lady Rams in the third period, by a 19-8 advantage. The score was 45-14 when they headed to the fourth quarter. A 3-pointer by Lady Rams freshman Victoria Byrd proved to be the only points scored for Joaquin in the fourth period as Timpson built their lead to 54-17 by game’s end.

The win improved Timpson’s record to 24-4 overall. Their district mark is 8-1. They lead the conference. Joaquin is now at 9-16 for the season and they are in seventh place in conference standings with a 1-8 mark.

JaKaria Deckard and Harlie Ware each scored 12 points to lead the Lady Bears. Other Timpson players were McKenzie Burgay 7, Claire Johnson 6, Laiton Braddock 6, Brylee Behrens 5, Sara Duke 3, and Tycluna Earl three points.

Victoria Byrd led the Lady Rams with 9 points. Riley Sherrod scored 6, and Kaylea Neal scored two points for Joaquin.

The Timpson Bears Boys Varsity defeated the visiting Joaquin Rams by a 55-17 final score on Friday. The Bears wasted no time as they jumped out to a 15-2 lead by the end of the first period. By halftime Timpson had ballooned their lead over Joaquin to 26-7.

The Bears gained ground in the third stanza by outscoring the Rams 20-8. The fourth period was a defensive battle but Timpson scored 9 points and Joaquin scored 4, which ended the game at 55-17.

The Bears are now 1-3 in District 22 Class 2A play. Joaquin has fell to 0-4 in conference action.

The Lady Rams and Rams Varsity teams will host Tenaha High School next Tuesday January 22, 2019, at 6 p.m.

Timpson will travel to Martinsville on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 for a 6 p.m. tipoff with the Lady Pirates, varsity boy’s action will follow.
