Traffic to be Switched on US 59 in Nacogdoches

September 20, 2016 - Motorists will see a traffic pattern switch this week on US 59 South in a major construction project in Nacogdoches.

Webber Construction, contractor for the $14 million project, will move northbound traffic onto newly constructed concrete pavement near the Spradley Street intersection. Traffic will not be able to cross US 59 on Spradley Street. An elevation difference between new and old pavement will prevent cross movement of traffic at the intersection.

Motorists traveling west on Spradley Street will be required to turn right (north) onto US 59 and those traveling east will also turn right (south) onto US 59. Motorists traveling north and south on US 59 will be able to turn onto Spradley Street. Once the intersection construction is completed, cross traffic movement will be restored.

The US 59/SL 224 South Interchange project is scheduled to be completed in 2017 and includes new lane configurations, raised medians, a widened roadway, sidewalks and intersection reconfigurations.

Motorists are urged to be alert as work continues through the area. Workers and moving equipment could be near lanes of traffic. Obey all signage and reduce speed. Remember, traffic fines double when workers are present.
