Traffic Switch Planned Next Week in San Augustine County

July 1, 2016 - LUFKIN – Traffic will be shifted beginning Tuesday, July 5, in order to begin the next phase of construction on a major San Augustine County construction project.

Traffic patterns will change for northbound and southbound traffic beginning next week to allow southbound lanes to be reconstructed on US 96 from the Shelby County line to FM 3451.

Moore Brothers, contractor for the $7.3 million project, will begin the next phase of construction that is designed to add passing lanes and reconstruct pavement. During this phase of construction, traffic will be confined to single northbound and southbound lanes. Motorists should expect lane closures and delays during the traffic switch.

Motorists are urged to reduce speed through the work area and be alert for flaggers, construction signage, workers in the area and moving equipment within the work zone. Remember, traffic fines double when workers are present.
