Transportation Commission Approves New Projects

May 31, 2016 -  The Texas Transportation Commission last week approved 60 maintenance and construction projects across the state totaling $186.3 million, with five located in the Lufkin District that total $8 million.

Angelina, Nacogdoches, Polk, San Jacinto and Trinity counties were approved for construction projects that will rehabilitate roadways, replace and repair bridge and approaches, upgrade culverts and resurface existing pavement. Specific projects included:

Angelina County
Pavement resurfacing was approved for a section of roadway on US 59, just south of FM 2021 at Redland to just north of FM 3439. Drewery Construction, contractor for the $1.4 million project will work to resurface the existing pavement.
 
Nacogdoches County
Southbound lanes of US 59 were approved for an overlay treatment from the grass median south of SL 224 to the Angelina River Bridge. Moore Brothers Construction, contractor for the $ 1.6 million construction project will apply a pavement overlay to existing southbound lanes.

Polk County
Bridges and approaches will be replaced at Piney Creek Relief 1 and 2 on Nine Bridge Road at Piney Creek. Hodges and Son Construction, contractor for the $740,248 construction project, will work to replace existing bridges and approaches at both locations.

San Jacinto County
A construction project that will improve culverts with safety treating was approved on US 190 from the Walker County line to the Polk County line and FM 980 from US 190 to the end of pavement. L.C. Jordan & Son, contractor for the $2.5 million project, will work to improve to standard the existing fixed culverts throughout the project limits.
 

Trinity County
A construction project that will improve existing culverts was approved on US 287 from the Houston County line to SH 94 West; from SH 94 East to the Polk County line; and on FM 230 from the Walker County line to SH 19. AR Brothers Construction Services, contractor for the $1.6 million project will improve to safety standards existing culverts throughout the project limits.
 
As these projects are scheduled to begin in the near future, motorists are urged to be alert to workers and machinery throughout project areas. Obey all signage, reduce speed and watch for changing traffic patterns. Remember, all fines double when workers are present in a work zone.
