Two-Vehicle Crash Results in Major Damage, Traffic Delays

December 6, 2016 - A two-vehicle crash on Shelbyville Street in Center caused major damage to both vehicles and traffic delays on Monday, December 5, 2016.

As the roadway was blocked at the intersection of Elliott Street, Center Police Officers directed several reluctant drivers to take alternate routes away from the collision and investigated the crash.

According to Center Police Officer Jake Gross, at 5pm Debra Lee Norris, 56, of Center  driving a 2013 orange Hyundai Santa Fe east on Shelbyville Street when a maroon Toyota Tacoma driven by Lorenzo Chavez, 17, of Center turned left in front of Norris toward Elliott Street failing to yield right of way and causing the Santa Fe to strike the Tacoma.

The force of the collision sent the Tacoma into a street sign causing damage to the sign and secondary damage to the vehicle as well as knocking the rear driver side tire off.

Chavez was issued a citation for failure to yield right of way. No injuries were reported of Norris, Chavez or his 12-year-old female passenger.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Officer Jim Blackwell assisted at the scene.
