January 18, 2019 Lufkin — TxDOT is conducting a statewide Truck Parking Study and assessing current highway design and how it impacts the movement of freight in the state of Texas.
The informative meeting and study will be held Wednesday, January 23, from 8:30 – 11 am at Angelina College in Conference Room CS104, 3500 South First Street in Lufkin.
As part of these studies, TxDOT is holding statewide workshops to gather input from freight shippers, drivers, logistics professionals and facility operators to assess truck parking and freight infrastructure design needs, challenges, opportunities and solutions.
Texas’ transportation system was built over multiple decades and, as a result, many highways were not designed for today’s freight vehicles and transportation requirements. In addition, significant technological advances are changing the way freight moves. The study will be looking at how to make improvements to pavement, bridges, rail crossings, intersections, tunnels and access points to better assist freight mobility.
“We encourage anyone who drives, owns or uses trucks for freighting their products to attend this important workshop,” said Rhonda Oaks, public information officer for the Lufkin District. “We are proud to be a host city and we welcome and need the public’s comments on the future of truck parking and highway design to accommodate our trucking industry professionals.”
This meeting is free and open to the public and designed for those who work in the freight and/or trucking industry. TxDOT staff will be available to answer questions.
