TxDOT Project Updates/Work for July 23-27 in Lufkin District

July 20, 2018 Lufkin – TxDOT crews are busy throughout the nine county Lufkin District with construction and maintenance projects. Motorists will encounter work zones throughout the district and should prepare for delays and reduce speed to the advised work zone speed limit. Drivers should stay alert and respect all traffic control devices, watch for flaggers and stopped or slow moving traffic as they drive through a TxDOT work zone. Work planned for the coming week in the Lufkin District includes:

ANGELINA COUNTY

  • US 59 South: Crews will continue work designed to plane and level the surface with an application of asphalt from FM 3482 to 1.126 miles north of FM 1818 near Diboll. Daily lane closures expected with a reduced speed limit.
  • US 59 South/SL 287 Direct Connector: Maintenance work is scheduled Wednesday afternoon and this section of roadway is scheduled to be closed from 1-5 pm. Southbound motorists will be required to take the South First Street exit.
  • US 69 South: A traffic switch is planned that will move traffic to the west side of the highway onto new pavement beginning at FM 844 to Huntington as crews prepare to construct roadway on the east side of the highway. Motorists should be prepared to reduce speed and obey all traffic control devices. This project is designed to widen the roadway from two to four lanes.
  • US 69 South: Contractors continue to clear right of way from FM 844 to FM 1270 on this project designed to widen the roadway from two to four lanes.
  • US 69 South/FM 326: Crews will be working on foundations in preparation for the installation of a traffic signal.
  • FM 841: Crews continue to work to replace the bridge at Biloxi Creek. Beams are scheduled to be set. This road is closed to traffic and detours are in place.
  • SL 287 West: Crews are scheduled to mill and inlay in various locations from SH 103 West to US 59 South. Daily lane closures expected.
  • Various locations: Work is planned to patch potholes, repair signs and spray herbicide. Motorists should expect delays and lane closures.

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY

  • SH 21: Work continues to improve guardrail to design standards and safety treat fixed objects with culvert extensions from SH 7 to the San Augustine County line. Motorists should expect daily lane closures.
  • SH 103: Work continues to upgrade metal beam guard fence to design standards from Angelina County to the San Augustine County line. Daily lane closures expected.
  • SL 224 East: Crews are scheduled to work on shoulder repairs. Motorists should expect delays and reduce speed.
  • FM 95: Crews are working to form bridge decks at the bridge replacement project at Terrapin Creek.
  • FM 226: Crews are scheduled to upgrade metal bean guard fence and safety treat fixed objects from SH 21 to the end of pavement. Daily lane closures expected.
  • FM 1638: Crews are scheduled to continue to safety treat fixed objects from FM 698 to US 59/SL 224. Daily lane closures expected.
  • FM 698: Crews will work to clean out culverts in various locations.

POLK COUNTY

  • FM 356: Crews are completing this project where pavement has been reconstructed and widened with a continuous two-way left turn lane and 10-foot shoulders from 1.1 miles north of US 190 to US 190.
  • Wells Landing: Crews are monitoring vegetative establishment on this bridge replacement project.
  • FM 350 North: Crews are working to improve guardrail to design standards and safety treat fixed objects. This project includes various locations on FM 350, FM 1725, FM 2610, FM 2665 and FM 3277. Motorists should prepare for lane closures.

SAN JACINTO COUNTY

  • US 59: Crews are monitoring vegetation and completing clean up through this project from just south of the Union Pacific Railroad in Shepherd to just north of FM 2914. This project has added a southbound frontage road and reconstructed main lanes of travel.
  • City of Coldspring: Crews have completed curb ramps and are working toward installing grates in various locations.

TRINITY COUNTY

  • Various locations: Crews will be sealing and maintaining road surfaces.

HOUSTON COUNTY

  • US 287 South: Crews are scheduled to apply a hot mix overlay from the Trinity County line to White Rock Creek. Lane closures expected.
  • SH 19: Work is beginning on this project that is designed to upgrade guardrail to design standards and safety treat fixed objects from 1.6 miles north of FM 231 to the Trinity County line.
  • SH 7: Crews continue to build the bent cap on the west side of the Trinity River Bridge foundation repair project. The work remains off the roadway, but motorists should use caution and stay alert to moving equipment.
  • SH 21 West: Crews are removing old concrete, placing base and treating the subgrade on this project designed to reconstruct the pavement and add passing lanes from 2.3 miles east of FM 2967 to SH 7. Temporary traffic signals are in place that allows for one way traffic across the bridge. Motorists should expect daily lane closures and detours.
  • FM 227: Crews are demolishing and rebuilding the headwall for installation of bridge rail at Bracken Creek and San Pedro Relief. Traffic is confined to one lane at the bridge with a mobile traffic signal directing the traffic flow on this project designed to reconstruct and widen pavement.
  • FM 227: Work is scheduled to pour concrete and backfill cross structures on this project designed to safety treat fixed objects from SH 21 to SH 7. Daily lane closures expected.
  • FM 2022: Crews are scheduled to seal roadway edges from SL 304 to FM 227.
  • Various locations: Crews will patch potholes and repair signs. Lane closures expected.

SHELBY COUNTY

  • US 96: Crews are scheduled to place hot mix asphalt pavement on this project designed to plane and level up the roadway and apply a permeable friction course from US 84 to SH 87. Daily lane closures expected.
  • US 84: This project to safety treat fixed objects from the Rusk County Line to US 59 is completing with clean up and vegetative establishment.
  • SH 7: Crews are scheduled to place striping on this project that has placed a permeable friction course on the roadway from the San Augustine County line to Mount Hermon. Daily lane closures expected.
  • CR 4620: Crews continue to build the detour bridge and metal beam guard fence on this bridge replacement project at Risinger Creek.
  • FM 3172: Crews are scheduled to seal the roadway. Motorists should expect lane closures.
  • FM 699: Crews are scheduled to seal the roadway in various locations.
  • Various locations: Debris removal and patching roadways.

SABINE COUNTY

  • FM 2343: Crews are scheduled to do level up and base work. Motorists should prepare for delays and lane closures.

SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY

  • SH 21: Crews are constructing tie-ins at this bridge replacement project at Perkins Creek. Daily lane closures expected.
  • SH 21: Crews are waiting for prime surfaces to cure at this bridge replacement project over Niciper Creek.
  • FM 705: Crews are monitoring vegetative establishment on this project where work has completed to safety treat fixed objects from SH 147 to 2.4 miles south of FM 83.
  • FM 711: Crews are mixing cement and hauling flex base on this project designed to reconstruct and widen the surface from the Shelby County line to US 96.`
