TxDOT Reports Shelby County Projects Include SH 87, CR 4620

March 16, 2018 Lufkin – As warmer temperatures and sunny days take over, TxDOT crews are out in all nine counties of the Lufkin District continuing and completing construction and maintenance projects.

As motorists travel through active work zones, they are urged to slow down and stay alert. Move into another lane if there is one available. If no other lane is available, reduce speed by 20 miles per hour below the posted speed limit. Remember that traffic fines double when workers are present.

Work for the coming week in the Lufkin District includes:

SHELBY

  • SH 87: Barricades have been set and work has begun to install driveway pipe on this project to improve and upgrade guardrail to design standards and safety treat fixed objects from SH 7 to SH 147.
  • CR 4620: Right of way work has begun and a detour bridge is being placed at Risinger Creek.

ANGELINA

  • US 69: Crews continue to clear the right of way and burn brush, so smoke should be expected in the area from FM 844 to FM 1270.
  • US 69: Work continues to excavate ditches and cement treat flexible base from the Huntington city limits to FM 844. Daily lane closures are expected on this project that will widen the roadway from two lanes to a divided four lane roadway with a continuous two-way left turn lane..
  • US 59/SL 287 East: Crews are scheduled to continue water blasting concrete surfaces to remove residual asphalt on the southbound direct connector from 8 pm to 6 am. The southbound connector will be closed each night during work hours.
  • BU 59/Chestnut Drive: Crews are continuing to install concrete barrier at the intersection that requires a single lane closure on Timberland Drive. This work is part of a construction project to improve guardrail to design standards at various locations.
  • FM 1194: Striping is scheduled to be placed and pavement edges are being backfilled in this project that has provided additional paved surface width from SL 287 to FM 3150.
  • FM 842: Crews are scheduled to repair road base in various locations.
  • FM 706: Base repairs are scheduled in various locations.

NACOGDOCHES

  • US 59: Crews will be working on northbound shoulders near the weigh station south of Nacogdoches.
  • SH 103 East: Crews continue to upgrade metal beam guard fence to design standards from the Angelina County line to the San Augustine County line.
  • SH 7: Crews continue to upgrade metal beam guard fence to design standards from the Angelina County line to BU 59.
  • SH 21: The right of way is being prepared on this project that will improve guardrail to design standards and safety treat fixed objects from SH 7 to the San Augustine County line.
  • FM 343: This project is being monitored for vegetative establishment from the Cherokee County line to FM 225 after the pavement was reconstructed and widened.
  • FM 1087: Driveway culverts and crossroad structures are complete in this project to upgrade and safety treat fixed objects from US 259 to FM 95.
  • FM 1878: The final surface is scheduled to be placed and sod is being installed on this project that has replaced the bridge and approaches at LaNana Creek.

SAN AUGUSTINE

  • US 96: This area is being monitored for vegetative establishment after the pavement was reconstructed with additional passing lanes from the Shelby County line to FM 3451.
  • SH 21: Embankment is being hauled and the bridge deck has been placed on the bridge and approach replacement at Niciper Creek.
  • FM 711: Right of way work is underway with daily lane closures from the Shelby County line to US 96 as they work to reconstruct and widen the pavement.

SABINE

  • SH 87: Crews are scheduled to repair road base in various locations.

TRINITY

  • US 287: Work is scheduled for an asphalt overlay from FM 1280 to the Houston County line.
  • FM 357: Crews will continue to upgrade guardrail to design standards from Apple Springs to FM 2262.
  • Various locations: Crews will be patching potholes and repairing signs.

HOUSTON

  • US 287: Work is scheduled to level up road surfaces inside SL 304 in both south and northbound lanes.
  • US 287 North: Level up repair work is scheduled at Happy Holler and edge repairs are planned from the Anderson County line to Grapeland.
  • SH 21 East: Crews continue to clean and safety end treat culverts from just south of SL 304 to 2.5 miles south of FM 1733.
  • SH 21 West: Pothole repair is scheduled through the project that has reconstructed pavement and added passing lanes from 2.3 miles east of FM 2967 to SH 7. Expect daily lane closures.
  • SL 304: Mill and inlay work is planned from SH 7 East to FM 229.
  • SH 7: Crews will be rehabilitating ditches in the Beria Community and various other locations.
  • SH 7 West: Crews will spot repair road base in various locations from SL 304 to the edge of the county.
  • FM 227: Work continues on cross structures on this project designed to upgrade fixed objects to safety standards from SH 21 to SH 7.
  • FM 357: Crews will continue to safety treat fixed objects from SH 7 to the Trinity County line.

POLK

  • FM 356: Traffic will be switched to its final configuration from 1.1 miles north of US 190 to US 190 where the pavement has been reconstructed and widened with a continuous two-way left turn lane and 10-foot shoulders.
  • Old Highway 35: Crews are monitoring vegetative establishment on this project that replaced the bridge and approaches at the tributary of Long King Creek.

SAN JACINTO

  • US 59: Additional signs are to be installed and the area is being monitored for vegetative establishment from just south of the Union Pacific Railroad in Shepherd to just north of FM 2914. This project has added a southbound frontage road and reconstructed main lanes of travel.
  • US 59: Crews will be cleaning signs, delineators and mailboxes in various locations.
  • SH 150: Work is scheduled to address drainage and washout issues in various locations.
  • FM 1127: Crews are scheduled to continue to safety treat fixed objects and upgrade metal beam guard fence to design standards from US 59 to the end of pavement.
  • Various locations: Pavement edge repairs are scheduled on various roadways throughout the county.
