Upgrades and Repairs Scheduled for US 59 in Coming Week

October 10, 2016 -  Southbound motorists can expect intermittent lane closures and delays throughout the week from 2.1 miles south of SL 224 in Nacogdoches County to the Angelina River Bridge.

Workers will be placing hot mix asphalt to resurface the roadway in the southbound lanes that will require the lane closures. Moore Brothers, contractor for the $1.6 million project, will continue the paving operations for about two more weeks.

Work is also scheduled in the northbound lanes of US 59 at Procella Creek near the Angelina River in Angelina County. Concrete barriers have been placed on the shoulders for work to replace bridge railings.

“US 59 between Lufkin and Nacogdoches is a heavily traveled major roadway through East Texas. We want to urge motorists to remain alert, reduce their speed and be cautious as workers and equipment move throughout these projects, as well as all of our construction and maintenance projects that are on-going,” said Rhonda Oaks, public information officer for the Lufkin District.
