U.S. 59 at Roadway Intersection Scene of Two-Vehicle Crash in Tenaha

May 17, 2017 - U.S. Highway 59 on the south side of Tenaha was the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Sunday, May 14, 2017 when a vehicle entered highway traffic.

According to Tenaha Deputy City Marshal Jacob Samford, at 4pm a silver 1995 Mercury driven by Travis Ray Handy, 18, of Tenaha crossed U.S. Highway 59 from W. Railroad St. and was attempting to enter Martin Luther King Drive.

A black 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Randy Jay Sims, 53, of Trinidad, Texas was northbound on U.S. 59, with passenger Kimberly Sims, 23, of Tenaha. At that time the Mercury crossed and failed to yield right of way to the Chevrolet, colliding with the driver's side of the truck.

Transported from the scene by ACE EMS was Randy Sims for treatment of unknown injuries.

Handy was issued citations for fail to yield right of way, no driver's license, and no insurance.

The Tenaha Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene with traffic control and with vehicles involved at the scene.

Deputy City Marshal Samford was assisted with the investigation by Deputy City Marshal Darren Gray.
