Utility Pole Broken During Single-Vehicle Crash

January 30, 2018 - Center Police Officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash Sunday, January 28, 2017 on Hurst Street in Center at 12:30am.

Once on scene, assistance from additional law enforcement officers was requested. It appeared a red Dodge Ram pickup truck had been traveling southbound on Hurst Street when, for an unknown reason, the truck traveled to the right and struck a utility pole at the intersection of Sanders Street.

After hitting the utility pole, the truck continued into the R&D Distributing fuel station where it struck a fuel pump and came to a stop. The utility pole, which previously had been struck, was snapped in two and partially hung across the roadway. In addition, apparently live power lines, dangled across the remainder of the road and limited the transition of such traffic as large truck-tractors.

Units with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies and Jamie Hagler, Constable Precinct 2, quickly responded to assist the CPD officers.

Center Police Officer Angela Neal interviewed the driver at the scene.

According to the Center Police Department jail log James Hicks, 48, of Center was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Police Officers were directing traffic until 4:14am.
