VFW to Observe Flag Day

June 14, 2018 - In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on June 14, 1777. The United States Army also celebrates their birthday on this date.

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day. In August 1946, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress but is not an official federal holiday.

Shelby County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 and the Auxiliary will celebrate Flag Day with the patrons of the Senior Nutrition Center, Loop 500 in Center on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 11am. The US and Texas Flags that have flown at the Center for the past year will be replaced. Everyone in attendance will receive a US Flag. Following the program, you are invited to stay for lunch.
