VFW Post 8904 & Auxiliary Observe VJ Day

August 28, 2017 - World War II came to an end with the formal surrender of the Japanese on September 2, 1945 aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay and this day has become known as VJ Day (Victory over Japan).

Shelby County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 and the Auxiliary will hold an observance on Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Veterans Memorial on the grounds of the Historic Courthouse in Center.

The program will begin at 10am and the names of those from Shelby County lost in the pacific war that are buried overseas or still missing in action will be read.  A memorial wreath will be placed on the Veterans Memorial in honor. Taps will be played to end the program.  If you know of a WW II Veteran that served in the Pacific and can attend or you would like to represent them, please contact Post QM Larry Hume 598-2976.  The public as always is cordially invited.

Our programs for Thursday (Iraqi Freedom) and Friday (VJ Day) will be held as scheduled but inside the Historic Courthouse, first floor in the likelihood of rain.

Hopefully your spirits are not dampened and we will see you then.
