What’s New at the Library

June 23, 2015 - The wildlife education program with live animals was a big hit with both groups of children attending the Lions Club’s summer reading program at the library last Thursday. It was hard to tell which animal the children loved petting the most. One contender was the baby kangaroo in a diaper but the small girls who held the large snake and passed it around was my pick. Sandra, of course, left the room when the tarantula was paraded. I was holding my breath when the ferret was brought out to view. I could visualize it getting loose in the library. The presenter did a great job of explaining the animals’ attributes as well as making it a hands on experience.

The summer program continues with the City of Center Fire Department arriving Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and at 2:00 p.m. for the “tween” program. The little ones will get the chance to be up close and personal with the big red fire truck.

One of the best things about this summer’s programs is the 60 plus library cards that have been issued since May 25th. Also, our circulation is exceeding last years with the best summer reads flying off the shelves. Favorites have been the following: Bill O'Reilly's Legends & Lies:
the Real West, Karen Kingsbury’s Chasing Sunsets, Harlen Coben’s The Stranger, Irene Hannon’s Buried Secrets, David Baldacci’s Memory Man, and Nora Roberts’ The Liar.
