September 27, 2016 - The William Carroll Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas began their 2016-2017 year with their annual "Welcome Back" luncheon. Reports on the 2016 Convention in Addison and the District IV Workshop in San Augustine were shared, as was the report on the Samford Medallion Ceremony held in June at the Historic Courthouse on the Square. At that time DRT Citizens of the Republic of Texas Medallions were dedicated for William Jasper and Barbara Snider Samford, Snider and Jemima Jane Hughes Samford, Elkanah and Mary Magdalene Weaver Samford and William Jasper Samford II.

At the September luncheon Richard Sweezer Biggar was also honored as a "Citizen of the Republic of Texas. These medallions honor those who settled in Texas during its Republic days.

The next event was the highlight of any meeting; a new member Welcoming Ceremony. Vickie Sample Martin, whose ancestor John Sample was a citizen and land grant recipient of the Republic, was received as the newest member of the William Carroll Crawford Chapter.
