Work Scheduled on US 59 South at Nacogdoches Loop

January 25, 2018 - LUFKIN – Work is scheduled to begin next week on US 59 South at SL 224 in Nacogdoches County that will require alternating lane closures throughout the week.

Crews are scheduled to begin removing existing concrete pavement on US 59 at the intersection just north of the SL 224 overpass. The concrete will be removed and replaced with full depth hot mix asphalt. The work will require lane closures during the course of the week that will alternate as work progresses. Work is expected to last about five days, weather permitting.

“This concrete was put down years ago prior to many of the US 59 improvements that we see today,” said Rhonda Oaks, Lufkin District spokesperson. “We want to remove that old product and replace it with a full depth asphalt surface. This will improve this area that has recently been updated with new construction.”

Motorists are advised to reduce speed through the area and prepare for delays as this work progresses. Traffic fines double when workers are present.
