Youth Group Delivers Appreciation Baskets to Local Law Enforcement

July 20, 2016 (Photos by Sonya Wilburn) - The White Rock Missionary Baptist Church youth group traveled to the Shelby County Sheriff's Department and the Center Police Department to deliver baskets of goodies and words of appreciation on Thursday, July 14, 2016.

Following recent events in the world, the kids told Sonya Wilburn, youth leader at the church, they wanted to do something nice for local law enforcement. Wilburn told the kids that it does not matter what your skin color is or who you are - every life matters. No matter who passes away someone is affected by death because they have parents, children or close friends and their life matters.

Wilburn said, "We wanted to do something nice to show appreciation to our law enforcement. All you ever hear is bad things going on in the world and I wish we could change that but we can't, but we can sure encourage people to do what's right. Every life matters!"

The group went to both the departments and presented them with a basket full of chips and candy and a message, 'Have some treats before you hit the streets!'

While at the police department, officers gave the youth a tour of the station and let them try on some of the equipment an officer wears. All enjoyed the visit.
