December 8, 2020 - Since 1946 the Veterans of Foreign Wars has conducted the essay program for high school students called Voice of Democracy. This program has provided millions and millions of dollars in scholarship money to the youth of our nation during the past 74 years.
Each student entering records a 3 to 5 minute audio essay on an annual patriotic theme. This year’s theme was “Is This the Country the Founders Envisioned?”
December 7, 2020 - It began when Japanese aircraft appeared in the air over Pearl Harbor, Hawaii just before 8:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, December 7th, 1941. When the attack ceased shortly before 10:00 a.m., less than two hours after it began, American forces had paid a fearful price. Eighteen (18) ships were either damaged or sunk, 180 aircraft were destroyed and 2,403 were dead and thousands of others wounded.
December 2, 2020 - The American Flag and all flags flying with it should be flown at half-staff on Monday, December 7, 2020, from sunrise until sunset in recognition of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
It is permissible to lower your flag the night before if needed. Flags that cannot be lowered can show respect for the day by tying a black ribbon or cord at the top of the staff.
November11, 2020 - Unfortunately due to the coronavirus and for the safety of all VFW Post 8904 and the Auxiliary will be unable to hold a program inside the 1885 Historic Courthouse this year.
However VFW and Auxiliary members will be at the Veteran’s Memorial on the grounds of the 1885 Historic Courthouse, Center, Texas on Veterans Day, Wednesday November11, 2020 at 11am for a Memorial Wreath Laying in honor of all Veterans who have served.
October 5, 2020 - Nineteen years ago, America launched its counterattack against terrorism in Afghanistan and ushering in Operation Enduring Freedom and The Global War on Terror.
September 30, 2020 - The funeral of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Ginsburg took place yesterday at Arlington National Cemetery. Flags should now be raised.
September 25, 2020 - VFW Post 8904 will have a short program at 11:30am this morning at the Veterans Memorial to remember all the Mothers and Spouses who have lost a child/husband/wife in time of war.
They will lay a memorial wreath and play Taps in honor of those lost.
