September 13, 2019 - With timing of initial construction sliding into mid-Sept, the City and contractor have today mutually agreed to postpone major demolition until the day following the Poultry Festival. This should avoid any imposition on the annual event or unnecessary hazardous situations. This extra two weeks will also allow the contractor sufficient time to guarantee initial deliveries so as to minimize any period between demolition and commencing installation of new materials.
August 22, 2019.- At the August 12th meeting, the City Council approved an item authorizing repairs and minor enhancements of the sprayground at Portacool Park.
Since it was opened in 2012, this feature has been one of the most popular park amenities.
"This is one of the most used park areas and obviously appreciated by our citizens," stated Mayor Chadwick.
December 31, 2018 - Due to the New Year’s holiday, trash pickup will be delayed one day. Tuesday pick up will be on Wednesday; Thursday pick up will be on Friday; and Friday’s pick up will be on Saturday.
November 6, 2018 - The Center Recreation Department is proud to announce the 2019 Little Dribblers sign ups will begin soon at the Center Middle School Cafeteria.
Sign up days are Thursday, November 8; Monday, November 12; and Thursday, November 15. All days are from 5pm to 7pm.
The cost is $55 for Basketball for ages 4-12 which includes jersey, insurance, trophy, and all fees.
48 Teams Visiting Center – Ready for Local Hospitality
July 19, 2018 Center, Texas (Event Schedule) – The 2018 Dixie Invitational World Series tournament will begin this Friday, July 20 at Center Park. A total of 48 teams from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas are participating. “Opening ceremonies will begin Friday at 7:30 pm, followed by an awesome fireworks show,” said Center Recreation Director, Jason Mitchell.
July 11, 2018 - The primary job of a host family is to be a primary point of contact for a team/parent/coach. They will be part of the delegation to welcome teams at Friday's check in at the Civic Center and help them through the tournament.
Some ideas include: attending games and cheering on your team when possible; staying in touch with parents/coaches; answering questions about places to eat, things to do, places to do laundry.
July 6, 2018 - The Center Water Utility is experiencing lower system pressures this morning. A water plant line repair initiated yesterday is taking longer than anticipated leaving the Pinkston Plant off line since early yesterday morning and resulting in lower than usual tank levels that control system pressure. The work is being completed and system should return to normal levels of operation later this evening. No system health notices are issued at this time but will be should pressures drop to the point they would be required.
