God Transforms (By Mike Belgard)

October 20, 2017 - I like movies about super heroes. Probably one of my favorites is Captain America. Before he was transformed into Captain America, he was a small man in stature but a large one in heart. He had no special skills or talents just a desire to serve his country when it was in need, with all his heart, soul, mind, and strength. While he was in training his heart, not his size or strength, set him apart from the rest of the trainees. It was discovered that he was the kind of soldier that they needed to get the job done.

Kindness: The Gift That Keeps on Giving

October 4, 2017 - Several years ago I was involved in a serious automobile accident. It was devastating to my family and our friends. I remember laying in the hospital in ICU and asking God how will this all work out. I had lost my wife. I could not go back to work. I couldn't even care for myself. I had a daughter that had been planning a wedding that was to happen in just a few weeks and it was during the holiday season.

What's In a Name by Mike Belgard

September 28, 2017 - Johnny Cash sang a song when I was growing up about a boy named Sue. In the song he told of all the bad things that happened to him because of the name he was given and summed it up with "Life ain't easy for a boy named Sue." However toward the end of the song, he realized that he was given that name to make him strong and tough. So, when he reflected back on his life, he was thankful for the name he was given.

Self-Control: The Power to Resist (By Mike Belgard)

September 13, 2017 - I love watching a well trained dog work. I am always amazed how these animals can learn such self-control. I had a Labrador Retriever once that was exceptional at the art of self control. He loved fetching things and would go get anything that you would throw for him, bring it back to you, and set it at your feet. But what was really amazing was that I could make him stay at my side until I told him to retrieve. I would tell him to stay, then throw a stick into the lake and he would not move. His eyes fixed on where the stick had landed.

Faithfulness: The Fruit We All Want From Others by Mike Belgard

August 25, 2017 - Have you ever really listened to wedding vows? I know that most all of us can say you have. But have you ever really contemplated what they are asking someone to do? You know that part that says "through sickness and health, for richer or poorer, forsaking all others, until death do we part." That's a commitment. As my old grandma used to say; "That's tying a knot with words that you can't untie with your teeth!"

Live to Leave a Legacy of Love (By Mike Belgard)

August 18, 2017 - I saw a bumper sticker not too long ago that I thought was kind of humorous that said, "Live your life in such a way that the preacher won't have to lie at your funeral." As I continued down the road I began thinking, there really was some wisdom to that little statement. I began to think; What if we lived our lives everyday in such a way that we would insure that the legacy that we leave with our family and friends would be one that they could and would, want to emulate?

The Great Plan (By Mike Belgard)

July 31, 2017 - I was going through a really rough time in my life a few years ago and was trying to make sense of all the things that were happening. I wondered why these things were happening to me. Every time I turned around it seemed like I was getting hit from a different angle with something. Like everyone else going through times like this, I had questions for God. Like; Why is all of this chaos taking place in my life? and; Where are you God? I prayed for answers to my questions for weeks.

"Run Forest Run" (By Mike Belgard)

July 20, 2017 - The movie "Forest Gump" is one of my all time favorite movies. It is a movie about a man who is simple minded.  And even though he had some mental handicaps, there was one thing that Forest could do; he could run. One of the main lines of the movie was "run Forest run." You see Forest ran for a lot of different reasons. He ran from bullies when he was a child. He ran for the University of Alabama football team when he went to college. He ran to save his wounded buddies in the Vietnam war.

Patience: Turning Adversity into Opportunity (By Mike Belgard)

July 13, 2017 - When I was a young boy I can remember going hunting for the first time. I couldn't wait to go squirrel hunting. The first day of squirrel season was a really special day. Everybody would go to camp in the swamp the night before so that they could get up early, before daybreak and get in the woods before the sun came up. That Friday before was a school holiday. It was a big deal. I remember sitting around the camp and listening to all the stories the hunters told.

Free at Last, Free at Last (By Mike Belgard)

July 6, 2017 - At the first constitutional convention the men who crafted the document that has defined freedom for the last 200 years knew where to draw there wisdom. They were at an impasse in there negotiation of the document when a well respected man in the group who was known for his ability to persuade people with both the written and spoken word, stood up and addressed the group. He requested that the group separate for three days in which they would pray and fast, then come back together and  again work on the document.
