“If you won’t forgive men of their sins, the Father won’t forgive you…” Matt. 6:15
January 17, 2022 - Most of us would like to have a better memory. The art of remembering (called “mnemonics”) is taught in the Bible and was once taught in public schools. My Pastor often told me, “When someone introduces himself to you, don’t you dare walk off and forget his name!”
“Watch and pray that you enter not into temptation…” Matt. 26:41
January 10, 2021 - As we were growing up, my bothers and I spent a lot of time at Weaver’s Pond in Center, Texas. It was an ideal fishing and swimming hole and was only a ten minute walk from where we lived. The little pond was teeming with perch, bass and a considerable number of water moccasins. For several years it provided some welcome meals for our large and sometimes hungry family.
January 3, 2022 - My son Neal lives in Manhattan, N.Y. After we had visited him in the city a few times, we invited him to visit the Sabine Game Refuge in Hackberry, Louisiana with us one summer. I wanted to impress him with the swampy environment and the creatures that live there… especially the alligators.
“Bodily exercise profits for a little while: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.” 1 Timothy 4:8
December 20, 2021 - “I will remember the wonders of old….” Psalms 77:11
My brother Joe and I talked on the phone from 9pm to 12:05am(!) this morning. Our conversation was mostly about the memories of our childhood Christmases. After cutting a pine tree (one year a holly), we made our ornaments from Crayola-colored rings stuck together with water and flour glue. None of us ever saw or ate an apple, an orange or an English walnut until Christmas every year.
“God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” John 3:16
December 13, 2021 - Pam and I constantly tell our children that we love them. We call them in New York and Texas almost daily telling them this. My Mother expressed it often to her children with letters, phone calls and cards. But in all the years I knew my Dad, he never once told me he loved me. And if my reaction to that fact was like some people I know, I’d be whining to the world how mistreated I was as a child and how it had so affected my life.
November 15, 2021 - When I decided to get a B.A. instead of a B.S. at ETBU, I knew I would have to take a course in some foreign language. And since Greek was the World language when Jesus was born and since our New Testament was originally written in Greek, I decide Greek would be my foreign language choice.
