Texas Offers April Sales Tax Holiday for Emergency Supplies

April 25, 2025 – FEMA Region 6 encourages Texans to stock up on emergency supplies during this year’s tax-free weekend starting April 27.

Residents can buy supplies and equipment to use in emergencies or natural disasters during the Texas Comptroller’s 2024 Emergency Preparation Sales Tax Holiday. No sales tax will be collected for eligible purchases made from 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 27 to midnight on Monday, April 29.

January 10, 2024 – Nearly three years ago, a severe winter storm brought hazardous conditions to millions of people across Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas, causing widespread disruptions such as frozen pipes, impassable roads, and power outages.

FEMA Aid Recipients Cautioned on Using Funds for Intended Purpose

April 23, 2016 AUSTIN, Texas – Recovery officials are cautioning Texans who have received disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to use the funds for their intended purpose and to keep disaster spending receipts for three years.

Disaster assistance is to help residents meet basic disaster-related needs and funds are distributed via check or direct deposit. A letter explaining what the payment is to be used for arrives within a day or two of the check or direct deposit payment.

Low-interest Disaster Loans Help Fuel Texas Disaster Recovery

April 22, 2016 - Disaster recovery experts today urged applicants for federal assistance to complete a disaster loan application from the U.S. Small Business Administration. Taking a loan is not required; completing the application can open the door to all federal assistance, including possible additional grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. If approved, and a survivor does not accept the loan, it may make them ineligible for additional federal assistance.
 

FEMA Officials Urge Applicants for Aid to ‘Stay in Touch,’ Get Answers, Resolve Issues

April 21, 2016 AUSTIN, Texas – Texans who registered with FEMA for disaster aid are urged by recovery officials to “stay in touch.” It is the best way to get answers and resolve potential issues that might have resulted in assistance being denied.

After registering with FEMA, applicants should receive notice by mail as to whether or not they qualify for federal disaster assistance. Read the letter carefully.

April 19, 2016 - FEMA Mitigation specialists will be on hand to answer questions and offer home improvement tips to reduce disaster damage. Information is geared to both do-it-yourselfers and general contractors on topics such as storm shelters and safe rooms.

Specialists will be available at the following locations:
Lowe’s: 3313 N. Fourth Street, Longview, TX 75605
Lowe’s: 900 W Gibson, Jasper, TX 75951
Available: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., today April 19.
