Farm Service Agency Now Accepting Nominations for Farmers, Ranchers to Serve on Local County Committees

June 21, 2023 — The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is now accepting nominations for county committee members for elections that will occur later this year. Additionally, USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) is unveiling a new GIS tool to make it easier for producers to participate in the nomination and election processes for county committee members, who make important decisions on how federal farm programs are administered locally.

All nomination forms for the 2023 election must be postmarked or received in the local FSA office by August 1, 2023.

Nacogdoches Farm Service Agency Announces County Committee Election Results

December 16, 2020 — Angelina-Nacogdoches-Trinity-San Augustine-Shelby County U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) announced that Gerald “Bubba” Green was elected to represent LAA 2 in Nacogdoches County. Kenneth L Smith was elected to represent LAA 5 in Angelina/Trinity County. Lazaro “Larry” Acuna was re-elected to represent LAA 8 in Shelby County and Charles D Boyette was re-elected to represent LAA 10 in San Augustine County.

Forest Service Conducts Controlled Burn Operations

October 19, 2020 – The National Forests and Grasslands in Texas will conduct controlled burns in the Angelina Forest and Sabine National Forest as conditions allow between October 19 through October 22.

The areas affected include Bannister Wildlife Management Area and Turkey Hill Wilderness Area on the Angelina N.F., and Moore Plantation Wildlife Management Area and Indian Mounds Wilderness Area on the Sabine N.F.

The clock is ticking… March 16 is THE LAST day to make what is likely one of the most important business decisions you will make for your farming operation this year. 

FSA County Committee Nomination Period Began June 14

July 22, 2019 - Nacogdoches-Angelina-Trinity-San Augustine-Shelby County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Lance Jacobs, announced that the nomination period for local FSA county committees began on Friday, June 14, 2019. 

"County Committees are unique to FSA and allow producers to have a voice on federal farm program implementation at the local level," said Jacobs. 

Farm Service Agency Reminds Producers of Acreage Reporting Deadline

October 18, 2018 - In order to comply with FSA program eligibility requirements, all producers are encouraged to visit the Nacogdoches USDA Service Center to file an accurate crop certification report by the applicable deadline.  Reporting deadlines vary by crop.

The deadline to report pasture and hay acreage for 2019 is November 15, 2018.  Timely reporting of your grass acreages will prevent you from incurring late file fees.

June 21, 2018 Nacogdoches – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) encourages America’s farmers and ranchers to nominate candidates to lead, serve and represent their community on their local county committee. According to USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) Nacogdoches-Angelina-Trinity-San Augustine-Shelby County Executive Director, Lance Jacobs, FSA will accept nominations for county committee members beginning Friday, June 15, 2018.

Farm Service Agency Public Meetings Scheduled

June 12, 2018 - Nacogdoches-Angelina-Trinity-San Augustine-Shelby Farm Service Agency will conduct public meetings to discuss the County Committee election / nomination process and other FSA assistance programs as well as FSA farm loan programs. Agency representative will be available to answer any questions regarding all programs available to producers. The meetings will be held on the following dates at the places listed:

FSA Makes Administrative Change to the Livestock Indemnity Program

April 25, 2018 – Starting today, agricultural producers who have lost livestock to disease, resulting from a weather disaster, have an additional way to become eligible for a key U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) disaster assistance program. USDA Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation, Bill Northey, announced an administrative clarification nationwide to the Livestock Indemnity Program.
