November 10, 2017 - There was a time in East Texas deer hunting when just about any deer was acceptable on the camp meat pole so long as it had antlers. But that's hardly the case anymore.
November 3, 2017 - Haslet-based Bass Champs closed out its 2017 season this month with its two-day team championship on the Red River out of Shreveport, La. and the 12th annual Berkley Big Bass event at Lake Fork.
Corey and Craig Waldrop took the top spot in the Red River championship with 10 bass weighing 21.81 pounds, while Brian Schott and Scott Gill grabbed second with 20.39 pounds. Both teams won Skeeter bass boats and bonus cash.
November 3, 2017 - The 2017-18 white-tailed deer season opens statewide on Nov. 4, and judging from pre-season forecasts filed by area experts, the upcoming season looks to be a promising one across the East Texas region as the animals enter fall in good body condition with average to above average antler growth on bucks.
Early reports from archery and managed lands hunters indicate those predictions may be right on the mark. At least a half dozen bucks with gross "green" Boone and Crockett scores upwards of 157 have already been reported in eastern Texas.
October 27, 2017 - East Texas hunters, anglers, landowners and others with an interest in wildlife, fisheries, state parks, habitat management and conservation are encouraged to attend the upcoming Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission regional public hearing set for 2 p.m. on November 1 at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center in Lufkin.
October 27, 2017 - The growing inclination to bridle in those itchy trigger fingers and the use of game cameras to monitor deer movements continues to pay off with some handsome whitetail bucks across eastern Texas.
October 20, 2017 - Keith Combs' second annual Sam Rayburn Slam bass tournament held recently on Combs' home lake produced some big bites and big cash totaling more than $20,000 for donation to Warrior's Weekend military veterans and victims of Hurricane Harvey.
October 13, 2017 - Toledo Bend big stick Glen Freeman of Zwolle, La., is a threat in any bass tournament. This is especially true during the summer and fall on his home lake, when the big ones are often are set up far from the bank on underwater points, ridges and humps.
