First UMC Missions Committee hosting Virtual Garage Sale

October 15, 2020 – First United Methodist Church (UMC) of Center is hosting a Virtual Garage Sale beginning Saturday, October 17 through Saturday, October 24, 2020.

First United Methodist Church offers Yoga Classes

August 26, 2020 – Polly Montemayor, a certified RYT-200 yoga instructor registered with Yoga Alliance, will be teaching a 10-class series of yoga classes at First United Methodist Church (UMC) located at 211 Porter Street in Center, Texas beginning Thursday, September 10, 2020. 

An introductory session and pre-registration will be held on Thursday, September 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the church Fellowship Hall. Class size will be limited to 25.

Center First UMC Little Free Library Sponsoring Book Drive

July 21, 2020 – The Center First United Methodist Church (UMC) Little Free Library located at 211 Porter Street is celebrating its second anniversary this month and is currently undergoing a design makeover! To help us celebrate this milestone, we need your help with new or gently used book donations. Accepted books include novels, magazines, Upper Room and other devotionals, crossword puzzle books, children and teen books, and large print books! Please deliver your books to the church office during the week Monday through Thursday 9am to 3pm and Fridays 9am until Noon.

Portia Gaines to Bring Sunday Lent Message at First UMC Center

March 12, 2020 - Please join us at First United Methodist Church, 211 Porter Street, Center, Texas on Sunday, March 15, 2020, 3rd Sunday in Lent. We welcome all to worship with us. We will celebrate Holy Communion and the Communion Rail offering will support the Shelby County Outreach Ministry. Our worship services are 8:30am and 11am with Methodist Men’s Breakfast at 9:30am followed by Sunday School beginning at 10am.  

First UMC announces 2nd Annual Soup, Chili, Gumbo Cook-off Competition Winners, Silent Auction Winners

February 27, 2020 - The First United Methodist Church of Center announces the winners of their second annual Soup and Chili Cook-off competition held Sunday, February 23 with proceeds benefiting the First UMC Missions Committee annual projects.  The First UMC Missions Committee members extend their appreciation and gratitude to the participants entering the cook-off competition, to the Silent Auction donors for their prizes and to the congregation and community for supporting their fundraiser.

First UMC Announces Christian Pen Pal Ministry: How Can I Pray For You?

February 17, 2020 – The First United Methodist Church (UMC) of Center and Polly McKissick Montemayor, First UMC Missions Committee Chair, extends an invitation to our community by joining the members at First UMC by becoming a pen pal and connecting with an individual in the congregation of Gold Creek Agape Church in Mezcales, Nayarit, Mexico. The goal is to establish a relationship between the two churches as well as our community by connecting members and residents directly and encouraging them to pray for one another.

FUMC offers Ash Wednesday “Drive-through Ashes and Coffee,” Evening Service

February 13, 2020 - First United Methodist Church (UMC) of Center will begin the season of Lent by offering “Drive-through Ashes and Coffee” to motorists on Wed., Feb. 26 beginning at 7am until 8am. All drivers need to do is pull up in the church parking lot and roll down their car window to receive a moment of prayer, ashes on their forehead and a cup of coffee.

Center First United Methodist Church (UMC) Missions Committee will host their second annual Soup, Chili and Gumbo Cook-off competition on Sunday, February 23, 2020 beginning at 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the church Fellowship Hall located at 211 Porter Street.

First United Methodist Church Announces Annual Halloween Trunk or Treat

October 7, 2019 – First United Methodist Church will host their annual Halloween Trunk-or-Treat on Saturday, October 26 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m at 211 Porter Street, Center, Texas. The free family-friendly event is open to the community and will include activities, food, cake walk fun and trick-or-treating in the church parking lot.
